In Thom’s discussion with Cobcroft, it is assumed that submarines travel underwater and surface to attack. It is actually the opposite. World War II-era submarines ran primarily on diesel fuel, which had to be vented externally, and remained on the surface most of the time. But the respite proved to be temporary, as Hollywood seems intent on churning out mostly scripts that serve side agendas, often well-disguised. Lola is a throwback to the days when creators could come up with a completely off-the-wall concept and then share it with millions. The script is sharp enough to cut through paper, and the technical elements are perfect. Ditto for the actors. It has some of the same sly humor we saw in another low-budget 2023 escapade, ARTIFICE GIRL. No, you’re not in the MCU or DCU. You’re not in Kansas anymore, either. Brilliant.
