Tale
Anora, a young prostitute from Brooklyn, meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch
After the news reaches Russia, her fairy tale is in jeopardy as his parents head to New York to annul the marriage… IMDb editor Arnaud Kazarian offers quick previews of 12 films he screened at the New York Film Festival in 2024, including Anora and a dangerous, strangely erotic Misericordia.. At the Cannes Film Festival press conference, Mikey Madison said that director Sean Baker will act out different sexual positions with his wife, producer Samantha Kwan, to demonstrate to the actors what he wants to they do..
I’ve seen a few others too
know that making a movie takes a lot of effort and writing a review is a matter of minutes. Anyway, I wanted to write my thoughts. I was looking forward to seeing this movie, I liked another Sean Baker movie “The Florida Project”.
The movie is too long for this story
"Anora" it has a nice atmosphere, the actors do a good job, but I find the humor repetitive and some scenes that I personally would have cut. Also, I found the Russians to be cartoonish, especially the evil mother. The first part is not bad, but the second starts with the Armenians invading the "mansion" I found it funny at first, but then it got boring.
I feel like the script could have been written/edited better
The last scenes with Yura Borisov added depth to the characters and I started to feel at least something for them. Overall, not a bad movie, but not something I would want to watch again. Check out the full lineup for the 62nd New York Film Festival this fall.
