The way a casual officer is revealed to be an agent (or an informant or confidential informant) is through the use of the acronym MICE, which stands for: MoneyIdeologyCompromise (also known as Blackmail)Ego. In a dialogue with Martian during a discussion with Dr. Blake, the acronym “OBE” is incorrectly translated as “Overtaken By Events.” In U.S. government agencies, including the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official explanation for the acronym “OBE” is “Overcome By Events.” The opening credits show characters and scenes from the series interspersed with mirrors. Former CIA Director of Counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “spy poet,” has described the intelligence game as “the wilderness of mirrors,” a phrase borrowed from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the title means “little old man” in Greek, and the poem is an internal monologue about the opinions and impressions of an older man describing post-World War I Europe through the eyes of a man who has lived most of his life in the 19th century). The Agency is a must-see for any fan of spy thrillers. First of all, the cast is absolutely incredible. It stars Michael Fassbender, Jeffery Wright, Richard Gere, and Katherine Waterston. The cast alone is reason enough to give it a try, and it’s a really good show. I wouldn’t be surprised if this show and most of the cast were nominated for awards come awards season. The show is about a CIA operative (Fassbender) who is ordered to leave his secret life and return to the field with his former lover (Waterston), who he is still in love with. His love for her begins to conflict with his real life and mission. If you’re a fan of spy thrillers or good crime series, give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.
